To help level the playing field for small businesses, the government limits competition for certain contracts exclusively to small businesses. Those contracts are called “small business set-asides,” they help small businesses compete for and win federal contracts. In determining whether your business qualifies for these set-aside contracts, financial and socioeconomic factors that are taken into consideration. Descriptions are provided below by the SBA of each of set-aside certifications that available at the Federal level :

The certification process varies depending on the SBA contracting program. Some allow self-certification via updates to the SAM registration while others require you to apply for a third-party certification.
